Bolognese Meat Sauce Shopping List:
2 tablespoons butter
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 small carrot, finely chopped
1 small stalk celery, finely chopped
3/4 pound ground beef
1/4 pound ground lean pork
1/4 cup tomato sauce or tomato paste
1/2 cup white wine
1 cup beef broth or stock
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Bolognese Meat Sauce Preparation Instructions:
1. Melt butter in a skillet. Stir in onion, carrot, and celery. Cook until tender. Add meat and cook over low heat 10 to 15 minutes.
2. Add tomato sauce, wine, 1/4 cup broth, salt, and pepper; mix well. Simmer about 11/4 hours. Stir in remaining broth, a small amount at a time, while the sauce is simmering. Sauce should be thick.
