Green Beans with Tomatoes

2 pounds green beans or 3 packages (9 ounces each) frozen green beans
1 teaspoon salt
½ cup olive oil
1 can (20 ounces) tomatoes (undrained)
1 medium onion, chopped
Juice of 1 lemon
1 teaspoon oregano, crushed
Salt and pepper

1. Wash green beans, cut off ends, and cut in half lengthwise. Bring a small amount of water to a boil. Add ½ teaspoon salt and the beans. Cover and cook about 20 minutes. Drain. If frozen beans are used, cook according to directions on the package.
2. Heat olive oil in a skillet. Add tomatoes, onion, lemon juice, oregano, and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer covered 10 minutes. Pour over beans. Simmer together an additional 10 minutes.
