Fruit Salad with Ice Cream Topping

4 pears, cored
1 large melon wedge
1 can Mandarin orange wedges
1/2 can pineapple
Green grapes (optional)
2 pints vanilla ice cream
1 cup fresh orange juice
Orange rind

1. Cut the pears and melon wedge in pieces and mix with the canned fruits.
2. Pour in a little of the syrup from the cans. Cover and let salad stand in refrigerator until chilled.
3. Divide the ice cream into 8 dishes.
4. Distribute fruit on top of ice cream.
5. Just before serving, pour on the fresh orange Juice. Sprinkle with finely slivered orange rind or coconut.
