Cross Cake Shopping List:
1 cup butter or margarine
1 ½ cups sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon salt
4 cups sifted cake flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 ⅓ cups milk

Cross Cake Preparation Instructions:
1. Beat butter until softened. Gradually add sugar, creaming until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each. Add vanilla extract and salt; beat well.
2. Mix flour with baking powder; alternately add with milk to creamed mixture, beating thoroughly after each addition.
3. Turn into a greased and floured 13x9x2-inch baking pan and spread evenly to edges.
4. Bake at 350° F about 45 minutes, or until top springs back when lightly touched.
5. Cool in pan on rack 5 minutes. Turn out onto rack; cool completely.
6. Cut out 3-inch squares from the two top corners of cake.
7. Cut out 6×2-inch rectangles from the two corners of the lower section of cake, leaving the cake in the form of a cross. Frost and decorate as desired.
